Reaction to CA Court's Overturning Gay Marriage Ban.

From Anonymous Liberal blog:

An Important Day

It's hard not to be touched by pictures like this one. Today is a day that will not soon be forgotten by millions of Californians. I'm happy for them all.

Talkleft:

To recap: The California Supreme Court Thursday overturned a law banning gay marriage (opinion here, pdf).

Hillary's statement:

"Hillary Clinton believes that gay and lesbian couples in committed relationships should have the same rights and responsibilities as all Americans and believes that civil unions are the best way to achieve this goal. As President, Hillary Clinton will work to ensure that same sex couples have access to these rights and responsibilities at the federal level. She has said and continues to believe that the issue of marriage should be left to the states."

Obama's statement:

"Barack Obama has always believed that same-sex couples should enjoy equal rights under the law, and he will continue to fight for civil unions as President. He respects the decision of the California Supreme Court, and continues to believe that states should make their own decisions when it comes to the issue of marriage."

A response from John McCain:

Sen. John McCain's campaign said the Arizona Republican "supports the right of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution sanctioning the union between a man and a woman." McCain, who last week decried judicial activism, "doesn't believe judges should be making these decisions," a spokesman added.

On side note: Here is something interesting on Vito "Finito" Fossela, NY representative who got caught with a DWI and learned that he led a double life: a married man and a mistress and fathered love child. Fossela was not only anti-gay rights but his own sister is gay! Check this out:

Fossella Disses Lesbian Sister

Vito Fossella, the embattled Republican congressman from Staten Island who was forced to acknowledge fathering a love child by a mistress in Virginia, does not believe in family values at home. The New York Daily News reported, "He even shuns his lesbian sister, Victoria Fossella, refusing to go to family events if she and her partner attend, a source close to the family said."

In 2005, Gay City News reported that Ms. Fossella, and her partner, Maggie Scharsella, marched in the Staten Island parade with their twins, one-year-old Jake and sister Karlie.Fossella has consistently voted anti-gay, including supporting a failed federal constitutional amendment to limit marriage to man-woman couples. He also voted to impeach President Bill Clinton for lying about sex with Monica Lewinsky.

Life's lessons and I've got to see the second one. I remember America having problems dealing with Blacks having equal rights. Strange how it's real simple but people make it difficult. As those who carried bibles said Blacks were lesser and then a light bulb went off Oh all men are created equal. Now gays are getting equal rights, I say it's about time.
God created man/woman in different colors shapes and sizes but he all so created us different as humans. One thing is put in all of us is love. Who has the right to said someone is different? When you leave the US your different from the people you meet around the world but you look for respect. Maybe it should start at home first. Does a parent stop loving a child because he/she is different as God loves that same child as he/she is.
