McCain Campaign Fudging Numbers About The Polls

The NY Times today quotes a McCain campaign adviser defending the campaign’s performance because even though “the Republican Party brand is very, very badly damaged, … Senator McCain is running even or ahead of Senator Obama in most national polls.”

That is a false statement, which the Times did not correct.

I recently penned an op-ed for last Friday’s Omaha World-Herald about why the attacks on Obama have failed to derail his path to the nomination, and failed to deny him a clear lead against Sen. John McCain (Full op-ed below).

I led with the observation, “He beats Sen. John McCain in seven of eight major polls taken this month, with margins mostly between 5 and 7 points, and the most recent survey showing a 10-point lead.”

That assertion was based on leads reported in the following polls taken in May:

CBS/NY Times: Obama, 11 points

USA Today/Gallup: McCain, 1 point

Ipsos: Obama, 4 points

LA Times/Bloomberg: Obama, 6 points

NPR: Obama, 5 points

Quinnipiac: Obama, 7 points

ABC/Washington Post: Obama, 7 points

Reuters/Zogby (including Ralph Nader & Bob Barr): Obama, 10 points

A few polls have been released since I wrote my oped:

GW-Battleground poll: Obama, 2 points

These May polls do not show that “Senator McCain is running even or ahead of Senator Obama in most national polls.” They show that the vast majority of national polls show Obama ahead.

That's old school stuff. I remember Tim Russert gave his poll numbers for Iowa and boy did he get egg in the face. I also notice I have never been called from these polls taken. Polls were once used to get a feel of the public opinion. Since the Lying Team came to the White House. Polls are used to make people think someone is winning.

Take Puerto Rico. About a month ago Obama was said to lead in voters and Hillary lost that State. Every news station and newspaper had it a closed deal. Bill went to Puerto Rico and again Obama was so far out in front it was a waste of time said the Media. Some like Fox News said Hillary should just cut Ruerto Rico off her list and move on somewhere else. I researched Puerto Rico. I remembered one of the most famous men from that State. He was a baseball player named Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburgh Pirate's. My Dad took me to see him play and he was great and good looking. Now I noticed how during Bill Clinton's two terms he and Hillary did alot for Puerto Rico, but the Media or Obama seem to remember that. Well now comes the time for that State to vote and wow Hillary is leading. Lies will always catch up with you. Howard Dean and the Super Delegates will decide this nominee and the people don't really have a say in it. This election will prove that Bush/Cheney have completed one mission and that is we no longer have a Democracy or a Constitution. The United States is controlled by a group of chosen people with no interest in the views of the people just their tax dollars. Our Law Makers are like used car salesmen/woman, next they will sell Americans the Brooklyn Bridge and we'll buy it.
