Former top State Police official and bombshell suicide note.

Very strange....

A former top State Police official who killed himself left behind a detailed suicide note focusing on Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's probe of the Dirty Tricks Scandal and feared an ongoing investigation of ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer's involvement with prostitutes, The Post has learned.

Recently retired State Police Inspector Gary Berwick, who hung himself in the garage of his home on Thursday, wrote a wide-ranging and sometimes rambling suicide note, sources said.

The letter zeroed in on his close relationship with former acting State Police Superintendent Preston Felton, a key figure in last summer's political espionage scandal who was dumped after Gov. Paterson took office in March, sources said.

The handwritten note was found near the 48-year-old Berwick's body Thursday afternoon in New Windsor, Orange County. It was read by a senior State Police official at the scene, placed in a sealed envelope and spirited to State Police headquarters in Albany, sources said.

Berwick, along with his longtime friend Felton, were both involved in the plot by Spitzer and his top aides to use the State Police to gather purportedly damaging information on alleged misuse of state aircraft by Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno (R-Rensselaer).

A source familiar with the contents of the note said Berwick made no specific admission of wrongdoing but appeared "obsessed" with the string of scandals that have rocked the State Police since the anti-Bruno plot was disclosed by The Post last July 5.

Berwick, who had headed security details for former Gov. George Pataki and Spitzer, also told friends recently he was "concerned" about another probe ordered by new State Police Superintendent Harry Corbett.

That investigation is looking at procedures followed by Spitzer's security team, which allowed the governor to spend time with hookers. The probe is also seeking to find out how the bodyguards missed the FBI surveillance crew at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington that snared Spitzer in a high-priced call-girl ring.

"Gary was concerned about an investigation of what had gone on with Spitzer and the prostitutes and he talked about getting a lawyer to represent him," said a source close to Berwick.

More on the story.

Update:

Governor Pataki speaks candidly about the death of retired State Police Major Gary Berwick, and the Attorney General’s probe into allegations that State Police unfairly targeted politicians.

BRIAN TAFFE: Finally, on this point, Sir: You can say conclusively tonight that you don’t believe Andrew Cuomo’s investigation will find any wrongdoing at all on behalf of State Police during your tenure as Governor of New York State?

GOV. PATAKI: That’s absolutely the case, Brian. I can assure you that there was none of these rogue units or political spying that anybody in my Administration authorized, approved of, knew of. It just did not happen.

This man knew to much and feared for his life and his families life. Now good points were made as to why Spitzer's security wasn't taking care of him and what does the State Police know abut the misconduct of former Republican Governor? Now Pataki was up to his neck in stealing 9/11 money but before that he was working closely with criminal Mayor Rudy and Big Business. I hope the officer mailed his information before he killed himself, if not the truth will come out anyway. Spitzer was set up and it was done by the Republicans and the Police. Corruption runs deep in the Republican Party and their are dead bodies to prove it.

Yes, I hope he mailed a copy of his note to the news people. One thing that wacko Virginia Tech shooter did right was mail a copy of that bizarre video to the news people so the world could know why, and find out how mentally ill that boy was.
