Washington wives were outraged over Vito Fossella and Laura Fay's lovey-dovey ways on a junket to Spain.
WASHINGTON - Outraged wives dimed out fellow traveler Vito Fossella and his Air Force honey, the Daily News has learned.
Congressional spouses on a European junket complained to ex-GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert's aides five years ago that the Staten Island Lothario was carrying on with retired Col. Laura Fay, then a lieutenant colonel using the name Laura Shoaf.
The most eyebrow-raising incident came at the end of the trip in Spain, when Shoaf, the military liaison, abandoned the speaker on a special tour.
Hastert's chief of staff, Scott Palmer, said the woman claimed she needed to escort Fossella to the airport for a commercial flight home.
"It's not like it was Bosnia or a third-world country," Palmer said of Fossella's dubious need for an escort. "Her priorities were more worrying about Mr. Fossella's logistics than the logistics of the speaker."
After Fossella and Shoaf went off by themselves, the New York Republican soaked taxpayers for $2,094 airfare while his seat on the military transport went unused, according to a report Hastert's office filed with the House clerk.
A handwritten note on the document says Fossella "left trip early."
Fossella was the only person in the group who incurred airline charges for unexpectedly skipping the military flight home.
Since May 5, Fossella's aides have refused to answer questions about the 2003 European trip.
Although some lawmakers on the junket have claimed they were clueless, wives traveling with them went on full alert over the lovebirds, sources said.

One lawmaker's wife said she was upset to see the couple ogling each other while each had a spouse across the Atlantic Ocean. Shoaf later divorced her husband, took the name Laura Fay and had a daughter with Fossella.
"They were clearly friendly," the wife told The News.
Palmer, who retired when Hastert left office last year, remembers hearing about the wives' gripes when the delegation returned from Britain, Denmark, Holland and Spain in August 2003.
Aides told him it appeared Shoaf fell down on the job overseas as chief military liaison to Hastert because she and Fossella were romancing each other.
Another Hastert staffer who saw hints of the affair said Republican leaders "got a lot of complaints from the wives."
"They have a sense for those things. They don't like home wreckers," the staffer added.
"He noticed she wasn't around," Palmer said.
Fossella wasn't originally invited on the trip to Europe and had begged Palmer to bring him along.
Hastert learned only after it was over that Fossella's main interest in the junket may not have been diplomacy.
"I did say to Hastert that there was scuttlebutt about them being kind of cozy," Palmer said. "But my main focus was that she seemed distracted from her job."

All this since 2003. Hastert protected all the Law Makers affairs, molestation and sex needs. It's 2008 and it's been that long and even the Vito out of wedlock child is 3 years old. Who's kidding who with this stuff. Barbara Bush has known about her husbands girlfriend Jennifer Fitzgerald and accepts it. Laura knows George is always having affairs and has found her own man. These woman know the rules of marriage and stay in it for the money. With all the talk of values and morals this is just a front. Why did Mrs. Vitter or Craig stand with their husbands knowing both hire for sex? It's the money people it's all about the life style and money. Even McCain's ex wife knew the rules as she was paid very well for her husband and keeping her mouth closed by Cindy McCain. This is a world most don't understand because it's totally against Christian Religious Family, Moral Values we teach our kids.
To prove my point Spitzer hired prostitutes he's out Republicans do the same and continue to and their cheered and keep their jobs. Senator Specter and covered up the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and he's now hailed by all as a Senior Senator.

But Americans hail this former President and his actions. Yes folks we are going backward as we destroy the good people and hail the criminal. Spitzer was forced to leave by Republicans who knew he was closing in on the Corp. Corruption in the home sales fraud. But Americans who are suffering in a recession didn't bother to see what as really going on just what propaganda they were told. Just think some million Americans could still be living in their homes if Sptizer were allowed to do his job and charge the criminals. Well I guess Americans felt it was more important to watch American Idol and wait for those rebate checks then get the real story. Just use any lie about a Official Democrat crime fighter who is protecting Americans and the corrupt White House wins every time.
Hastert is doing just find with his stolen money from pay offs, taxpayers money and of course the stolen profit he got from Iraq. Like the Bush Family, Hastert knows it's all about the greed and money the hell with the American people and the Constitution.
