Ex-US President Jimmy Carter has said Israel has at least 150 atomic weapons in its arsenal.
The Israelis have never confirmed they have nuclear weapons, but this has been widely assumed since a scientist leaked details in the 1980s.
Mr Carter made his comments on Israel's weapons at a press conference at the annual literary Hay Festival in Wales.
He also described Israeli treatment of Palestinians as "one of the greatest human rights crimes on earth".
Mr Carter gave the figure for the Israeli nuclear arsenal in response to a question on US policy on a possible nuclear-armed Iran, arguing that any country newly armed with atomic weapons faced overwhelming odds.
"The US has more than 12,000 nuclear weapons; the Soviet Union (sic) has about the same; Great Britain and France have several hundred, and Israel has 150 or more," he said.

And this administration is too worried about Iran who has the IAEA breathing down it's back constantly. You have to wonder if all this attention and noise being made on Iran isn't to distract from other things.
Jimmy Carter is heroic, He is not walking on eggs around the Israelis. Nobody talks about their nukes. Or else they're jailed like Vannunu. I personally am glad he's cut through the decades of propaganda to say that Israel's treatment of the Palestinians is a crime.
Your right TGCN what's really going on? Now Isreal was given Nukes by the US. The Nukes were given so Isreal could protect themselves there was no United Nations approval. Pakistan was given Nukes to join in the illegal invasion of Iraq with no UN approval. It seems the United States just gives Nukes to the countries that follow there orders.
I wondered why Russia said they would protect Iran if the US illegally attacked Iran. One can only wonder how Iran feels with no protection. Isreal is looking for the US to start a War with the Middle East so Isreal can steal more land and use the US as the enemy. Not a bad plan, let the US be the bad guys then Isreal can act like they had nothing to do with it. So much for Isreal being God's chosen people looks like Satan's work to me. I have alot of Jewish friends and they don't believe in what's going on today.
