Thinkprogress:
Yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) skipped the vote on the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which “restores the longstanding interpretation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act,” overturned last year by a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling. In New Orleans today, McCain explained his opposition to the bill by claiming it “opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems.” He added that instead of legislation allowing women to fight for equal pay, they simply need “education and training“:
“They need the education and training, particularly since more and more women are heads of their households, as much or more than anybody else,” McCain said. “And it’s hard for them to leave their families when they don’t have somebody to take care of them.
“It’s a vicious cycle that’s affecting women, particularly in a part of the country like this, where mining is the mainstay; traditionally, women have not gone into that line of work, to say the least,” he said.
The issue is not “education and training.” When denied equal pay by her supervisor, Lilly Ledbetter was doing the exact same job as her male counterparts and received numerous performance-based awards. McCain has a long record of failure on women’s issues, earning him a 0 percent rating from NARAL ProChoice America six years in a row, from 2001-2007.

We can only hope and pray that the voting citizens are paying attention to McCain's antics.
I fear that as the battle against the Dems keeps going on this will be more of a distraction away from McCain.
Any woman who votes for McCain should be put down. Look at how McCain talks to his wife as if she's trash. Now maybe that's what some woman think of themselves but this man could lose the election just by opening his mouth.
I guess McCain forgot a woman is running for President. Plus there are many female Presidents of other countries. What bothers me more is woman aren't standing up the way they did in the pass. Now woman seem to be afraid of standing together. Woman seem to be attacking woman while men just laugh and continue to break down Woman's Rights. I watched Danica Patrick beg for help from woman all over the USA when she wanted to race in the Indy500. Not one woman's group or even support came from a woman. I signed Danica's web sign and to my surprise I was second. It took men to get Danica endorsements. Not one business own by a woman signed her up. Well without the help of American Woman Danica Patrick won the Indy500 and is listed in the Record Books as the First Female Indy Champion. Now as I have read the blogs all these woman are talking now after the fact so it looks like if a woman has a dream to reach the top she will not get any help from woman it will take help from strong men to do it. So McCain might be laying the foundation for a new Supreme Court ruling as woman will no longer have equal rights and voting is out too.
Mama says McJackAss can go to hell for his comments. Mama has MORE education and MORE training yet it is the MEN who get promoted. Mama has me and the older cat but hasn't had time to have a family.
Mama says McJackAss's comments just pushed her from a 10 on the BITTER level to a 15 out of 10 for BITTER.
Mama took her blood pressure pills early tonight. She feels better.
McJackAss's remarks were so stupid Mama might actively campaign for either Hillary or Obama, whomever wins.
I respect women, kittybowtie. In fact, I respect all people regardless of gender, race, nationality, and so on. McSame is showing through words and action that he is unrelated to the common folks. The bottomline to McCain is that Cindy wears the pants in the family financially. And he is simply brought and paid for from his wealthy mistress now wife. He has to crawl to his wife everytime for funds for his campaign.
Glad Mama calm down. She shouldn't get too upset on someone that is older than the microwave. Good for mama for campaigning for the Democratic nominee. He or she will need all the help to defeat Grampa in November.
p.s. Mama will find the person [aka Mr. mama] who accepts her for her when she least expected. :D
I might be old and wise but I'm not to old to learn from my friend the cat. I am lucky I've found a friend who's wise as an owl and soft as a rabbit. I will back who ever gets to be the Democratic candidate too. Oh love the Hill and always will. I've followed her career and life for so long and the letters I got from her are priceless. But your right Mr. Kitty Bowtie it's about beating John McCain.
"it's about beating John McCain."
Mama says before it was about a Democrat winning, now it's about McJackAss losing.
:-D
McJackAss is older than the ballpoint pen, too.
