April 2, 2008 -- The man accused of running the Emperors Club VIP escort ring that brought down Eliot Spitzer should get his head examined, court papers say.
Magistrate Judge Kevin Fox ordered that a psychologist be allowed to evaluate Mark Brener, 62, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, at the request of his lawyer, Murray Richman.
"I just want him analyzed, that's all. I'm just trying to get a handle on my client," Richman said when asked why Brener needs the services of a psychologist.
Brener, who is being held without bail, allegedly ran the operation from his Cliffside Park, NJ, home with the help of his girlfriend, Cecil Suwal, 23.
The pair, along with two accused bookers, Tanya Hollander and Temeka Lewis, were due back in Manhattan federal court next week, but the date will likely be postponed, a source said. Separately, the alleged No. 2 of another prostitution service that counted Spitzer as a client, remained on Rikers Island yesterday.
The family of Gloria O'Toole, 34, could not immediately come up with her $25,000 bail.
