A sad day in New York. But, you dance to the music, you have to pay to the piper in Spitzer's case. There are still holes left in the investigation into the Emperor VIP Club, fate of the defendants who were involved and the unanmed clients' involvement. The justice system is still broken. Since Spitzer resigned, then Vitter, Craig, and other hypocritical elected officials involved in sex scandals should do the same. I hope the Spitzer learned a valuable lesson from this and clean up his act. Best of luck to Lt. Governor that will replace Spitzer.
Thinkprogress:
Today, Eliot Spitzer announced that he is stepping down as governor of New York state, after his involvement in a high-end prostitution ring was revealed earlier this week. His resignation will be effective on March 17.
Lt. Gov. David Paterson will now take Spitzer’s position, becoming the state’s first African-American and blind governor, and only the third African-American governor since Reconstruction.
UPDATE: Lt. Gov. David Paterson has put out a statement:
Like all New Yorkers I am saddened by what we have learned over the past several days. On a personal level Governor Spitzer and Silda have been close and steadfast friends. As an elected official the Governor has worked hard for the people of New York.
My heart goes out to him and to his family at this difficult and painful time. I ask all New Yorkers to join Michelle and me in prayer for them.
It is now time for Albany to get back to work as the people of this state expect from us.

I wish he didn't but I understand why he did. The Attorney General should be pleased he got another great Democrat out of office. It was so strange to hear the comments about Gov. Spitzer while Larry Craig, David Vitters and Mark Foley have no problem continuing to do the Christian Family Values conduct. This shows why the Bush team got in office twice. Dumbing down of Americans has worked very well. As we see the French President marry is mistress who was a call girl with no problem. But Americans are so busy looking at scandals as the White House is stealing the taxpayers money. I can see this case will be dropped now that what the White House wanted has been done. Now it's more important to protect the Rich clients who most likely are Republicans. Don't expect the Media to ask any questions as they were told not to questions any of the lies the White House told while illegally invading Iraq.
