DENVER (MyFoxColorado.com) - --
Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., said he is troubled by allegations of personal misconduct against Edward W. Nottingham, the chief federal district judge in Colorado.
Judge Nottingham is under review by an appeals court over a complaint citing news media reports that Nottingham allegedly viewed adult Web sites on his government computer in his chambers, and that he had testified in his divorce case last year that he spent $3,000 at a strip club one night.
Salazar told reporters this week that he wants to investigate further to determine whether sanctions are necessary.
"I am very troubled by recent allegations made against Chief Judge Edward Nottingham," Salazar told The Denver Post. "I believe that a United States district court judge should serve in an exemplary manner, both on and off the court. I will examine the evidence concerning the allegations and then decide what future action might be appropriate."
Salazar, who formerly served as Colorado's attorney general, issued a statement saying he plans to consider the evidence against Nottingham before deciding any "future action."
"I have a simple aim here and that is to try to make sure that the United States District Court for the state of Colorado is the very best district court we can have in our state and in the country," Salazar said. "Because there are going to be three judicial vacancies where we will be making appointments and confirmations of the positions in the next several months, I hope it's a new beginning for the district courts in Colorado."
Nottingham's attorney, Stephen Peters, didn't return calls to The Associated Press Friday.
Nottingham presided over the high-profile trial of former Qwest Communications CEO Joe Nacchio last year. Earlier this month, a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit of Appeals in Denver ruled that Nacchio should receive a new trial because the trial judge improperly prevented a defense expert from testifying.

Mr. Kitty this might seem a little unusual coming from me but here it goes.
I'm defending Judge Naughty. Prostitution has been around long before all of us on earth have been here and it will go on long after we've left this earth. If a list of men who use prostitutes was given there would be only a few men left on earth. Judge Naughty has alot of company and even some men who are starting to speak out have a closet. We know the Spitzer matter was just used to get him out of office but to make prostitution a major problem is like saying don't read the bible. When I finally finished reading the hold bible it was clear it was truly a rated x book. Now what was told was the true story good, bad and ugly deal with it. If woman didn't go out to sell themselves men would have prostitution. Most of the woman who hold themselves up to such standards are just like the Desperate Housewives on TV. It's so much easier to condemn others but we never seem to look in the mirror at ourselves. Judge Naughty is an old man and if that's what he likes to do so be it. When woman stop men will have to stop. I remember how people Republicans talk about Bill Clinton and made him out to be the worse man in the world. When the dust settled those who were talking were really worse then Bill. Even Larry Flynt said Bill was a choir boy compared to the Republicans. The man carrying the touch of Religious American Family Morals Values was in his 80's and fathered a child with an aide that was old enough to be his granddaughter. Look lets just keep it real the only sinners who must get out of office are Democrats and just leave the Republicans alone.
