US 'plans Pakistan military intervention' Bush administration officials and intelligence chiefs have met to draw up plans for stepping up military intervention in Pakistan. US President [sic] George W. Bush's top aides - including Vice-President [sic] Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice - military commanders and intelligence chiefs had met in secret at the White House to debate whether to expand the authority of the CIA and the military to 'conduct far more aggressive covert operations in the tribal areas of Pakistan,' the Canadian press reported.

But the "dangerously expanded" powers of the executive branch cited by Rep. Michaud could remain in place.

Bill Richardson dropping out.
The AP reports that New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is
ending his campaign for the presidency “after twin fourth-place finishes that showed his impressive credentials could not compete with his rivals’ star power. Richardson planned to announce the decision Thursday, according to two people close to the governor with knowledge of the decision.”

UPDATE : MSNBC has now reported that Richardson plans to announce his decision to
drop out on Thursday.
