Environmental groups are currently pushing the Interior Department to list polar bears “as a threatened species due to global warming under the federal Endangered Species Act.” Yesterday, Sen. Ted Steven’s (R-AK), who is currently facing a federal ethics investigation, said he opposes the move because it would “block the development” of a natural gas pipeline in Alaska’s North Slope. Stevens added that he believed the designation was “unnecessary.”
