Family pets fall victim to subprime crisis.

CHICAGO (AFP) - Forget about the lost furnishings and finances, the most pitiful victims of the subprime mortgage crisis rocking the United States are the family pets.

Shelters across the country have seen sharp upticks in the number of people giving up their pets in recent months because they have been forced out of their homes.

And -- more tragically -- neighbors, police and foreclosure agents are finding increasing numbers of pets left to fend for themselves in abandoned homes.

"We're finding too many animals who have starved to death," said Stephanie Shain, director of outreach for the Human Society of the United States.

While some people dump their pets on the street, others go so far as to lock the animal in a closet where their cries for help are harder to hear, she said.
More on the story.

It's so sad to hear about family pets. Now one cat in Illinois will never have to worry about a home as long as I'm alive. Mr. Kitty will always have a place to stay and food. This problem of our economy will touch everything and everyone in our lives.

Thank you. It's warmer in California, too.

OK folks--behave yourselves for the next week or so. The Cat is going to be busy making sure some idiot doesn't get Hastert's seat. There are actually three idiots trying for Hastert's seat and two OK people who have a chance. There are some extra people running but they don't have a chance. The idiots outnumber the decent people. I'll check in here and there but will certainly share the results on February 6th when it's known which people get to move on to Round 2 and 3. Because Hastert left early, there will be actually two primary ballots, one regular one for November and one special one for the short-term position. There will be a special election for the job in March, for the time in between March and January. It's possible there could be a short-term person elected in March and if that person does something stupid in the job by the November election, we could have someone different after the November election!

Let's hope a good person gets the March election and that same good person gets the November election, too!!

Thanks Ketty for helping getting someone decent in for Hastert. Good luck.

Jackie, the bad thing is if this is happening to pets in Illinois it is happening to pets all over. It will also hurt the economy as far as vets, vaccines, county tags for rabies, pet food sales, pet treats, pet care items......well you get the picture, one thing affects the other in the economy, and the snowball keeps getting bigger.
