Conrad Black sentencing day. Part 3.

Black will report to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida March 3, 2008. Black's new home is a low-security institution with dorm-style rooms.

3 p.m. ET— Edward Greenspan gives his statement:
That’s America today. At the end of the day, to end up where we ended up is kind of a lot better than when we started. But it's not over. What is left is an appeal.
Greenspan says he can't be confident the conviction will be overturned: "No intelligent lawyer would ever be confident about it."

3:45 p.m. ET— Mary Vallis reports: As Peter Atkinsons's sentencing got under way, federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spoke to reporters in the courthouse lobby.
Black will be moving from Palm Beach to Eglin. Anyone who has heard of either one will know that is a serious change in life conditions....Mr. Black is going to jail as a fraud, a convicted felon guilty of fraud.
He also addressed the possibility of Lord Black applying to serve his sentence in the United Kingdom: "If he requests a move, we will consider it."
Update: Turns out, Eglin's closed, so Black will have to go somewhere else.

Gee, the sentence seems really on the light side to me! Though I don't have any interest in the case, I sure feel for the stockholders who feel ripped off. I guess the judge didn't insist on any restitution. Or apology. What do you think?

Go ahead, move his jail cell out of the country.

Jackie, tell Fitz the Cat says Convicted Felon Conrad Black can have his pick of:

Turkish prison
Russian prison
or
Colombian prison

Anon:

Black's case was a criminal case. I do look for a civil lawsuit by the shareholders. and they will certainly sue the company since Black's asset on in the company. So, the criminal case is far separate from a civil case. And the shareholders will go after Black.

Kittybowtie:

You are so harsh on your list of prisons. LOL! Fitz would certainly think that Jackie lost her mind if she told Fitz that the "Cat" made these suggestions of prisons. ;-)

Mr. Kitty Fitz knows what you look like. No worries Mr. Kitty where ever Black goes he will be sorry. Now he has asked to go overseas but it's really up to the country if they want him not what he wants. As for the shareholders they will sue the Black Company and attach his finances to the lawsuit. The shareholders should be checking the off shore banks for the hidden money he stashed away.
