"No one is offering us a do-over, and we do not expect an apology," Mr. Fox said.
"No one is offering us a do-over, and we do not expect an apology," Mr. Fox said.
But he urged Judge St. Eve to give Lord Black the maximum sentence and "make an example out of Conrad Black" to send a warning to other officers of public companies.
1:51 p.m. ET— Black is speaking.
2:00 p.m. ET— Speaking softly, Lord Black began by saying, "We have the verdicts and we can't retry this case."
He went on to say that he has "never uttered a disrespectful word" about Judge St. Eve or the jury and expressed "profound regret and sadness for the severe hardship inflicted on all of the shareholders," citing the fact the stock plummeted as an example.
Lord Black gripped the podium as he spoke and also thanked the judge for her "unfailing courtesy" when he was almost universally presumed guilty elsewhere.
2:01 p.m. ET— Black has been sentenced to 78 months (6.5 years) and given a fine of $125,000.

Update:
2:19 p.m. ET— Judge St. Eve said Lord Black is not likely to flee and will allow him to surrender himself to a federal institution in 12 weeks. [ March 3, 2008]
Update 2:
Under federal law, defendants must serve a minimum of 85 percent of the prison sentence they receive. That means Black won't be eligible for parole until 2012.
Congrats team! ;)

I bit is Lord Black wont be back and he'll be long gone. Remember Ken Lay faked his death so Black will be on the same Island as Kenny boy as the Court will close the case. Bush will make Law and pardon all the GOP criminals so they can come home.
Keep an eye on Black. Illinois is about to get whacked with more ice by tomorrow morning and the electricity will go out again.
(If you don't hear from the Cat for a day or two, the Cat will be in the backyard roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a campfire for something to eat).
I hope you roast those doggies good, kittybowtie. ;-)
Seriously, sorry to hear about the bad weather there. Tell your mama to keep you in the house. I'll cross my fingers that your electricity don't go out.
Mr. Kitty you always have a place in California. You are always welcome but leave the rabbits. Now I didn't know cats ate hot dogs. I heard about the ice storm and there's suppose to be another one coming tomorrow. What will it take for Americans to see we have Global Warming and it's only going to get worse.
