WASHINGTON – Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are pressing for information linking the executive branch to the 2002 New Hampshire "phone jamming" scheme.
U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes commended the Democrats for their letter to Acting Attorney General Peter D. Keisler, which seeks details of any Department of Justice inquiries into the plot to tie up the state Democratic Party's phone lines on Election Day 2002.
"Free and fair elections are the lynchpin of our democracy," Hodes said in a statement yesterday. "I am pleased with the Committee's decision, and have faith that any activity intended to subvert the will of New Hampshire's voters will soon be brought to light."
Hodes has called for a congressional probe of whether the executive branch was involved in a "politically motivated plot" to delay and obstruct justice in New Hampshire.
