Tin Foil Alert! From American Idiot Spectator: Fitz leaked info that embarrassed Gonzo.

I saw this article on PJF blog. I had to laugh at the article. Now Fitzgerald is said to leak info that oust Gonzo. Let me get this straight. The leaker (Fitz) leaked info to the leaker-in-chief (Bush) who is connected to the CIA leak investigation... That rag newspaper has nothing else to do but give farce story on why Gonzo resign. I'm waiting for the story of Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny to have strong ties to Al-Queda.. Pass the popcorn please...

And why was there concern about these stories? Because the U.S. Attorney handling the Holy Land case is none other than Patrick Fitzgerald, of Scooter Libby fame. Fitzgerald is believed by some inside the White House to have been the source of the earlier Muslim leak that embarrassed Gonzales.



According to White House insiders, there were plans for outgoing Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign, but not as early as he did. "We were expecting it over Labor Day weekend, not a week earlier," says a White House staffer. In fact, few if any senior staff at the Department of Justice were prepared for the Monday (August 27) resignation of Gonzales. According to DOJ aides, Gonzales wrote his very brief remarks at the press conference, with speechwriters and policy advisers completely in the dark of what was happening.

So why the speed up? According to DOJ staff, revelations that the Department was continuing to improperly vet partners for Muslim outreach programming were brewing, particularly with the resignation of the head of the department's civil rights division. "It's been an ongoing issue, and there was politics at play, as well," according to a DOJ source. Earlier in August, it was reported that the department had canceled a Muslim outreach event at Washington headquarters, which would have featured Gonzales, after it was learned one of the cosponsors had ties to a Muslim organization that was an unindicted co-conspirator in the federal Holy Land Foundation terrorist financing prosecution. On a side note: Maybe the rag newpaper meant Judy instead of Fitz. From TPM cafe article in 2005:

I reported on TPM how Fitzgerald had quite aggressively investigated another Bush White House leak in late 2001 and early 2002. Fitzgerald had been investigating three Islamic charities accused of supporting terrorism -- the Holy Land Foundation, the Global Relief Foundation, and the Benevolence International Foundation. But just before his investigators could swoop in with warrants, two of the charities in question got wind of what was coming and, apparently, were able to destroy a good deal of evidence.

What tipped them off were calls from two reporters at the New York Times who'd been leaked information about the investigation by folks at the White House.

One of those two reporters was Judy Miller.
