Four new attorneys have been hired as Assistants to the Solicitor General:

From SCOTUSblog:

Curtis Gannon, from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.

Toby Heytens, from the University of Virginia Law School

Leondra Kruger, from the University of Chicago Law School (and recently of WilmerHale)

and

Anthony Yang, from the Civil Appellate Division.

My understanding is that there are at least two other openings still to be filled.

Gregory G. Garre is the acting Solicitor General as temporary replacement to Paul Clement, now the acting Attorney General.

On a side note: Quick Loop Quiz! When was the last time a solicitor general was named acting attorney general? Apparently the most recent parallel instance was during Watergate, 34 years ago, when Attorney General Elliot Richardson and deputy William Ruckelshaus resigned in the Saturday Night Massacre and Solicitor General Robert Bork took over.
