Pentagon Paid Close to 1 million to Ship Two 19-Cent Washers

From Yahoo News:

Aug. 16 (Bloomberg) -- A small South Carolina parts supplier collected about $20.5 million over six years from the Pentagon for fraudulent shipping costs, including $998,798 for sending two 19-cent washers to a Texas base, U.S. officials said.

The company also billed and was paid $455,009 to ship three machine screws costing $1.31 each to Marines in Habbaniyah, Iraq, and $293,451 to ship an 89-cent split washer to Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Pentagon records show.

The owners of C&D Distributors in Lexington, South Carolina -- twin sisters -- exploited a flaw in an automated Defense Department purchasing system: bills for shipping to combat areas or U.S. bases that were labeled ``priority'' were usually paid automatically, said Cynthia Stroot, a Pentagon investigator.

What a waste of money!!

They need to pay the money back. Too bad the U.S. definition of treason is so narrow compared to other countries. Milking the taxpayers and robbing taxpayers blind just doesn't seem to be illegal enough. Steal a loaf of bread or a pack of cigarettes and the penalty is might higher.

Speaking of insanity, here's another reason to take the bus.

"much higher" not "might higher"

Yeah, I already get enough crap at the airport. On the long flights, I wear my glasses so I can sleep unless there are screaming kids (yes, cats can wear glasses or contact lenses). In my passport picture and drivers' license I am wearing contact lenses, so I usually have to take off my glasses when I get that confused look by the people at the airport. That usually makes the most grouchy looking customs official laugh.

When I was in London, I had a leg injury. I told the security people I didn't think I could stand up in the line for two hours, I got a security escort and they put me with the little old ladies in the wheelchairs.

Now I'm a suspect because those behaviors are not normal.

LOL, you learn something new everyday. Yesh, I know that the airport security has gotten ridiculous but guesssing a person's facial expression such as a frown or non-smiling is a suspect has been a big low in brain mentality. What the DHS has to deal with are people from differcult cultures who don't smile in public or make facial expressions due to their culture. But, look what we are dealing with: a DHS whose brain size is a BB.

A cat wears glasses I never knew. Are you like Puss-in-Boots? Now some things are as strange as the million dollar shipment of washers. How do you drive and how did you get a passport? I take offense with the comment about old ladies. Now do you take a litter box with you as you travel?
