Calabrese Sr. takes the stand at mob trial

Family Secrets defendant Frank Calabrese Sr. took the witness stand this afternoon at his federal trial in Chicago.Earlier, defense attorney Joseph Lopez today told U.S. District Judge James Zagel that his client had made a final decision and "would like to take the stand in his own defense." Calabrese's testimony began after 2 p.m. but details were not immediately available.Calabrese's testimony comes one day after co-defendant Joey "the Clown" Lombardo testified on his own behalf.

Nick Calabrese told jurors that Frank Calabrese Sr. was responsible for some of the most high-profile mob killings of the last several decades, including the killing of mob hit man William "Butch" Petrocelli, burglar John Mendell and Michael "Hambone" Albergo.Nick Calabrese told authorities that his brother killed his victims by strangling them with a length of rope and slashed their throats to ensure they were dead
