From Thinkprogress:
National Hurricane Center director Bill Proenza stepped down today after roughly half of his staff signed a petition calling for his ouster last week. The staff claimed Proenza’s working environment “of closed doors and the public airing of dirty laundry” put the “effective functioning” of organization at risk as the hurricane season heads towards its peak.

Update:
MIAMI (AP) - The director of the National Hurricane Center was temporarily reassigned Monday, four days after many of the center's employees called for his removal.
Bill Proenza had replaced longtime director Max Mayfield in January. More than 20 of Proenza's nearly 50 employees had urged federal officials to dismiss him last week, claiming he damaged the public's confidence in their forecasts by repeatedly and publicly criticizing the federal government for not providing enough funding, particularly to replace an aging weather satellite.

You have to give the 23 employees credit to have the guts to go against their boss, they could be saving countless numbers of lives in the long run.
