A sad day in the judical system...
President Bush has spared Scooter Libby from a 2½-year prison term, issuing an order that commutes his sentence, the AP reports. Libby will never have to go to jail, but his felony conviction will stand, and he will still serve two years probation and $250,000 in fines.
And this tells you the fate of George W. Bush's presidency from this decision.
UPDATE: On June 5, White House spokesperson Dana Perino said that the President was “not going to intervene.”
From Bush’s statement today:
I respect the jury’s verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby’s sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison.
My decision to commute his prison sentence leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby. The reputation he gained through his years of public service and professional work in the legal community is forever damaged. His wife and young children have also suffered immensely. He will remain on probation. The significant fines imposed by the judge will remain in effect. The consequences of his felony conviction on his former life as a lawyer, public servant, and private citizen will be long-lasting.
The Constitution gives the President the power of clemency to be used when he deems it to be warranted. It is my judgment that a commutation of the prison term in Mr. Libby’s case is an appropriate exercise of this power.

You all have to understand the Gerbil didn't have a choice. He and Cheney had a lot in stake. And of course, Cheney had Bush push on this issue quick to squash the media's takes on Libby going to jail. Bush slap the judicial system and the America people in the face by immediately giving Libby a get out of jail free card. Libby may have been the small fish from the leak investigation but look for a big showdown from the American people vs. Administration from Bush's decision. All of the hard work from the prosecution team went up in flames from Bush's quick decision today.

Don't ask Markie. Fitzgerald's office is not commenting on this latest blow from the Gerbil. The Northern Illnois district, the prosecution team, FBI investigators, and so on who were involved in the 3 year old leak investigation are not happy campers today.

Every Judge, Prosecutor, juror and Americans should take notice that the White House has destroyed the United States Justice System. We were once one of the greatest Legal Systems in the world. George W. Bush didn't make the decision to give Libby the out of jail card it was his Father who did. Yes this weekend Daddy Bush was helping his baby son out of the mess he's in. Daddy Bush had to deal with a powerful President Putin as he weak drunken cowardly son was scared. Mommy Barbara was there to bake cookies.
We have just witnessed how far our country has fallen because Americans haven't stood up to protect the United States from the enemy from within. Criminals and child molester are free to continue their criminal acts.
I hope the Fitzgerald team know how much Americans are grateful for all their hard work. Yes even we should applaud Judge Walton and the Appeals Judges for their work.
If you don't like what was done to destroy the US Justice System get off you butt and do something. Tell your elected officials and those candidates running for office. Put on your voting ballots in your State IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY NOW. If you don't do anything you deserve what you get.
