Libby 'wants what Martha Stewart got'

Folks, there is an idiot born everyday and Libby is one of them! Sigh.. So, now Libby wants Martha Stewart's sentence?

From Raw Story:

I. Lewis 'Scooter' Libby wants what Martha Stewart got," according to the Associated Press. "The former White House aide, who faces 2 1/2 years in prison for perjury and obstruction, cited the domestic celebrity in court documents Wednesday as part of his bid to put his sentence on hold."

The AP story continues, "A federal judge agreed to put Stewart's five-month prison sentence on hold while she appealed her 2004 conviction for lying about a stock deal (though Stewart opted to serve the time anyway). WorldCom CEO Bernard Ebbers got a similar deal after his conviction in an $11 billion accounting fraud, as did David Safavian, a former White House official convicted in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal." Full AP story can be read at this link.

O.K. Let's review the cases of Martha vs. Scooter:

Charges

Stewart: 4 counts of obstruction of justice, fraud, and lying to the investigators on inside trading on Imclone shares. (was found of all counts)
Libby: 5 counts of obstruction of justice, lying to the investigators and grand jury, and making false statements. (was found guilty in 4 counts)

What brought the charges:

Stewart: selling her Imclone shares days before its application for a new drug in the pharmacutial company was denied and lying to investigators.

Libby: leaking classified NIE documents of a covert agent's identity to reporters and lying to the investigators and grand jury.

Punishment for Martha Stewart: 5 months in prison, 5 months of home confinement, two years probation, a fine, and stripped from her role as CEO and chairwoman of MSLO for a non-executive role.

Punishment for Libby: 30 months in prison.

What Libby has failed to mention regarding Martha Stewart is this:

In August 7, 2006, the SEC announced that it had agreed to settle insider trading charges against Stewart and Peter Bacanovic relating to Stewart's sale of ImClone Systems stock. Under the settlement, Stewart - without admitting guilt - agreed to the maximum penalty of about $195,000, or three times the losses she avoided. Stewart also agreed to a five-year bar from serving as a director of a public company and a five-year limitation on the scope of her service as an officer or employee of a public company. She will be prohibited from participating in financial reporting, financial disclosure, internal controls, audits, SEC filings and monitoring compliance with the federal securities laws.

How can Libby compare inside trading violation by Stewart whose crime didn't involve national security or ruining anyone's career forever or putting a person's life in danger to his crime?

On a side note: Bacanovic who was charged with Martha Stewart is out of jail and working.

Another desperate attempt to avoid jail time by Scooter.. I'm waiting for him to wait Paris Hilton's sentence!

I love the cat!
Now Libby will be a Martha Stewart when he does get out of jail. Yes I visited Rahway State Prison and it's a different world. I know he will be going to a Federal Prison but prison is prison. Martha did her time and really came out a better person and her finances increased. Now Libby is running out of excuses and friends. The GOP crime team don't have time to deal with Libby they have problems of their own. Libby should be reading some books on what it's like to be a man. He will surely be someones little girl friend in the big house. He looks alot like a really old gnome

Good question, kittybowtie!

I had said on PJF blog long time ago that Libby's law license should revoked for 5 years. Amd I still stand by that statement. I hope Walton and the bar of association considers that.

On a side note: And because Martha was a stockbroker, that is why the gov't and the SEC made sure that they stuck it to her that she doesn't do any trading in the stock market. If Martha was punished for her past career as stock broker, then Libby should not be allowed to practice law for 5 years.
