On Thursday, Judge John Bates had to hear both sides of the defense attorneys of Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, former Chief of Staff Scooter Libby, former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and Vice President Cheney and the lawyers of the plaintiffs of Joe and Valerie Wilson in the Wilsons civil law suit.
The defense attorneys have asked for the case to be dismissed.
The defense attorneys argued that Cheney and the top White House officials can’t be held liable for anything that they disclosed to the journalists about “covert CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson or her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson.” They argued that argued repeatedly that Ms. Wilson’s CIA work would be a major hindrance at trial. They go on to say that any conversations that “Cheney and the officials had about Ms. Wilson with one another or with reporters were part of their ‘normal duties’ because they were discussing foreign policy and engaging in an appropriate ‘policy dispute’." Then, Cheney’s attorneys went further to say that Cheney has absolute immunity from any lawsuit because Cheney is “legally akin to the President.” More on Newsinkling.org.
