Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida) told Gonzales she has a problem "today figuring out what you do know." Her comments came after she questioned Gonzales about about the importance of prosecuting specific individual cases of alleged voter fraud involving immigrants. Gonzales could not offer specific details about voter fraud cases. However, he spoke in general terms and said individual voter fraud cases, where it appeared that people who filled out voter registration forms incorrectly, normally do not fall under the guise of a priority.
However, the cases that Wasserman Schultz discussed were vigorously prosecuted by Gonzales's office, and Democrats believe it was done to suppress minorities from voting in last year's midterm election. - Jason Leopold

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers told Gonzales moments before Conyers adjourned the hearing that "the matters we've been discussing today are of the utmost importance, and I am concerned that we are not getting the cooperation to get to the bottom" of the issue. Conyers told Gonzales he was disappointed that the attorney general is "unable to answer the first and most basic question of who put these US attorneys on the firing list and why. It's clear to me that we on this committee have a serious duty to press forward" and gather "meaningful info from the White House," Conyers said.
