PARIS (Reuters) - French President Jacques Chirac announced on Sunday he would not seek a third term in office, confirming widespread expectations that he would end a 45 year career in politics after elections in May.
Chirac has served as president since 1995 and leaves behind a mixed record that includes many strong gestures, such as his opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, but only limited social and economic reforms.
Je vous souhaite le succès, le Président Chirac.
