Prosecutor: Libby wants to load up trial
Dick Cheney's former chief of staff intends to load up his criminal trial with information about nine national security matters, the names of foreign leaders and details about various terrorist groups, say court filings in the Valerie Plame leak case.
The papers filed this week hint at what has been taking place behind closed doors as Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald tries to limit the amount of classified data that I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is permitted to use at his trial in January.
U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton is asking whether classified evidence would overlap Libby's likely trial testimony. Libby's lawyers have already said he will take the witness stand to deny lying to the FBI in its investigation of the Plame leak.
In court documents, prosecutors argued that it would be "unnecessarily wasteful of time" to allow Libby to present "names of foreign leaders or government officials of other countries, or the names and histories of various terrorist groups."
The danger for prosecutors is that the sheer volume and extreme sensitivity of classified information Libby wants to introduce could scuttle the trial. More on the story

Two much information can hurt. Libby is pulling out the stops by pouring on the defense as if it changes the facts. With all the lies coming to light all Fitz has to do is ask the jury's one question. Can anyone say I don't remember while under oath. If Libby had so much work why didn't he ask for help and what were Bush/Cheney doing. Cheney seem to have a system of keeping notes forever. Libby can remember what Cheney did with writing on the piece of paper, dates with Miller as he talked about Plame and of course keeping this family in the picture. Now this man was so busy he wrote a book. Kept lunch dates even talked to media. How much time did Libby spend on the job vs entertainment and social activities. Fitz is very busy yet he has time to feed the cat. Fitz should check the activities of Libby while he uses the I was busy excuse. How long was he with Miller during their bed action. Who else was he sleeping with during that busy period. Did he take a vacation or travel. Yes these guys spent alot of time planning to invade Iraq but let's get real. Even Foley took time to email during the important vote. So let's use the time line with the bed mates. Libby was living large and that's when people make mistakes like Foley.
